[Jen Pumo] layers imagistic lyrics over atmospheric soundscapes well worth exploring. Her performances are unfailingly compelling, even though she seldom raises her voice.

My name is Jen Pumo. I compose and perform contemplative downtempo adult music. I have been playing for many years and my current writing centers around subjective piano, textural soundscapes and mostly handmade beats. The music I make is born, like most things, from the nature-nurture collision of my life.
I was raised in the kaleidoscopic chaos factory that is Miami. Yet my preternatural preference for mystic quietude, mountains and stars intensified an unyielding longing for greener grass. This longing paired with a series of musical discoveries initiated a lifelong process of creativity.
It all started with piano, my first and foremost love. I was able to pour my wonder and desire into those beautiful keys. She is still my true companion. From my college years of philosophy, coffee shops and revelatory relationships came the singer songwriter guitarist. The sensibility of acoustic, passionate, confessional music continues to warm and guide me. Additionally, my college town was graced by a short-lived but quite excellent rave scene and a taste for delicious sonic etherics was forever stamped onto my consciousness. And finally, after years of longing for the greener grass I moved to Colorado, where I honed and integrated my musical expression.
I met my writing partner, Graham Pearce, under some blinking lucky mountain stars and we almost immediately began our collaboration. Our merger activated what had remained latent in me as an artist. His melodic sensibility, his drive and his genuine philosophic intellect melds with my expressionistic piano style, my desire for lyrical dialoging and my humility in service of the muse. Our process is both intuitive and methodical. I have matured as a musician and am a more patient artist through our synergy.
For over a year we were submerged in the creation of my first album, All Over the Moon, released in late 2007. Happily the album has met with very positive acclaim and was chosen as one of the best of the year among local releases by Westword magazine, who also recognized me as the 2008 Best Purveyor of Electro-pop. One can imagine my excitement and a mite of confusion being named a purveyor of electro-pop. Curious indeed, though I am deeply grateful nevertheless.
Inspired by the beauty, mystery and rich cultural tradition of Tibet and her people, and in order to voice our desire for TIbet's liberation, Graham and I composed "Silent Message." In a continuing supportive effort we have written "So Far" as part of a soundtrack for When the Dragon Swallowed the Sun, a documenatry on the younger generation in the Tibetan community in exile and their struggle to free their homeland. Directed by the talented and passionate filmmaker and educator, Dirk Simon, this film also features music from Thom Yorke (Radiohead) and Phillip Glass. To be in such company is humbling.
Currently, we are in the studio breathing life into our next album, exploring the byways of personal shamanic revelation and communal connection in an age of emerging global consciousness. Set to bloom in Spring 2010.
I look forward to continued growth. My interests and passions stretch across a continuum of self-exploration, profound healing and the creation of community. My greatest wish is to create authentic expressions of my life experiences.
